SIMSBURY YOUTH JUNIOR (U12) & SENIOR (U14) BOYS A-TEAM TRYOUT PROCEDURES
Simsbury Youth Lacrosse's objective is to provide each player with a safe and rewarding lacrosse experience. Our tryouts are designed to ensure that each player is placed on the team that will enable them to fully develop their lacrosse skills at an appropriate pace and that they will have a positive playing experience.
To that end, we have designed a try-out process that is as objective and fair as possible.
Evaluation Criteria and Team Selection
The players are evaluated on the following criteria:
Players are judged on their abilities in the following areas: catching and throwing, shooting, individual offensive and defensive skills, ground balls, effort and attitude.
The following is further clarific
ation about the 2017 tryouts, which will be held:

As previously communicated, only players desiring to tryout for one of these A Teams need attend tryouts. For those who are interested in trying out, you will need to register your son through the “Registration” tab found on the left hand side of the Simslax website. Players not registered will not be allowed to tryout. All other players for both divisions will be divided between 2 equal B teams to be selected before the anticipated start of the season.
Tryouts will commence promptly at start times stated above respectively. Please plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to your designated time slot on each day for check-in as uniforms will be distributed before the tryouts. Each boy will be assigned a number and that number will be used by the evaluators. The focus of the tryouts will be to set the U12 and U14 A teams. Players will be evaluated for the position they are trying out for. No cuts will be made after the first day and final selections for both teams will be posted on www.simslax.org early in the week of March 27th.
All players must be outfitted in the mandatory equipment: Stick, helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, and cup. Turf shoes or sneakers are required, as cleats will not be permitted for the indoor facility. We ask that your son bring his own water, Gatorade, etc. SYL will not supply water for tryouts.
Our deadline for the Tryout Registration will be Friday March 10th. Please note - Walk-ons will not be allowed to tryout.
As has been our practice for the last several years, our goal is to provide a team of Evaluators from outside of the program so they can provide an unbiased and independent evaluation of each player. The Evaluators typically have played or coached lacrosse so they have deep knowledge of the game. Some of the Evaluators may have been involved with SYL in the past. If circumstances warrant, a person currently involved in SYL may act as an Evaluator if they have no connection to that particular Division and have no children involved in the tryout process. Additionally, some parents from other Divisions may be on the field during tryouts for the purpose of facilitating drills for the Evaluators, but they are not involved in the evaluation process.
Any player interested in trying out for the A-Team must be in attendance for these scheduled tryout sessions. If a player is unable to attend due to illness, injury or other good cause, notification must be made in advance to the applicable Division Director and the excused player will be assigned to a subsequent session as determined by the Division Director. Players not interested in participating on this team are not required to attend these tryouts as selections for the B-Teams will be made the following week.
Best of luck to all the boys!
