Girls Lacrosse Program

GIRLS TEAM SPECIFICS

The Simsbury Youth Lacrosse program focuses on skill development while having fun with age-appropriate levels of competition.  Girls are divided into 4 divisions- U8, U10, U12, & U14.  Girls are encouraged to join the program at any age. We welcome beginners though the U14 level.

The season typically runs from late March (weather dependent) through mid-June each year. Each team will participate in two jamboree/tournaments throughout the year. 

Simsbury Youth Lacrosse encourages children to play multiple sports. We understand that children have many interests and feel that they should have the opportunity to play other sports. If possible, our coaches will work with coaches of other sports to avoid conflicts. Please realize that this is not always possible. As described below, with respect to our most competitive teams in the U12 & U14 divisions, Simsbury Youth Lacrosse does ask for a serious commitment.

U14

The U14 division does have tryouts for the Select team. All teams are travel & will play competitive schedules. 

The Division will include one Select team that will compete in the Connecticut Valley Girls Youth Lacrosse League . This team will generally travel within Connecticut & Western Massachusetts & may travel more than the other teams. We ask that participants on this team to commit to lacrosse as their primary spring sport. This does not mean that a participant cannot play another team sport.

The division will also have multiple B teams. These teams will be balanced equally. These teams will play in Connecticut Valley Girls Youth Lacrosse League.

Tryouts for the U14 Select team are optional. Information about tryouts are posted on the SYL website under tryouts.

U12

The U12 division does have evaluations. All teams are travel teams and will play competitive schedules.

The division will typically include two teams (A team and a B team) that will compete in the Connecticut Valley Girls Youth Lacrosse League. These teams will generally travel within Connecticut & Western Massachusetts. Tryouts for the A team are optional. The A team will play in the more competitive division of our league (CVGYL) and may pick up additional games in the competitive CONNY league, with further travel distances required. All A team players are to consider lacrosse their primary spring sport. The A team players are expected not to miss lacrosse games and practices for other sporting events.

U10 

The U10 division does not have tryouts & is mostly instructional. All teams are travel teams & will compete in the Connecticut Valley Girls Youth Lacrosse League. The division typically has either two or three teams, that are divided equally.

U8

The U8 division does not have tryouts & is instructional. The U8 division will focus on basic skills & progress toward smaller field scrimmages. Practice will be during the week & games will be on the weekends and consist of mostly "in-house teams/games" with games against other towns a couple times throughout the season. This team typically will only travel outside of Simsbury a couple times.
